being able to use prefered names would make trans kids be more comfortable using the website/app

I agree, I’m a librarian and I use a system called Accessit for book checkout and that has a preferred name area. which I really appreciate and many of my students do too.
It’s designed so that you can search the first name, preferred first name, or last name, and it will find the student with any of those but when it pulls them up it displays only their preferred first name and last name.
